Stand Up and Spit Exhibition

SUS banner crop

A banner exhibition featuring everything you could want to know about Ranting, along with materials including records, ‘zines and books, will be on display at the Saison Poetry Library, Southbank Centre.

The whole idea of Stand Up and Spit came about as Tim Wells decided it was time to look back on some spoken word history that for many people, it being pre-internet, simply did not exist. In delving back into his own and fellow Ranters pasts, Tim has dug up an amazing amount of material that displays the brilliant creativity of Ranting poets, from the poems to fanzines, from music press cuttings to photos of the era, along with the records pressed (strictly vinyl of course) and the books published – both officially and handmade. None of this material has been shown before and much of it has been rescued from original Ranters’ houses or fans’ collections.

Free entry | Dates to be confirmed | Saison Poetry Library, Southbank Centre, Belvedere Road, London SE1 8XX
Along with the presentation of the exhibition will be a special one-off Ranting event in the Saison Poetry Library – details to follow.
