Breaking Ground once more returns to ASWAD, showcasing British writers of colour at the biennial conference that is taking place in Seville, with six fantastic authors.
Two years ago, the first Breaking Ground tour of ten black British writers visited Charleston, USA, to showcase their work at the conference of Association for the Study of the Worldwide African Diaspora (ASWAD), where their performances were met with standing ovations.
Novelists and short story writers Yvvette Edwards, Peter Kalu, Irenosen Okojie, Jacob Ross and Leone Ross will be joined in Spain by Colin Grant, who was part of the original US tour. At this year’s edition of the conference we continue our European showcases with three Breaking Ground events:
Breaking Ground roundtable discussion – Colin Grant and Speaking Volumes Directors Sharmilla Beezmohun and Sarah Sanders discuss the purpose, progress and success of Breaking Ground.
Breaking Ground: Black British Prose Writing showcase – with readings from all five writers, hosted by Colin Grant
Breaking Ground: Writing Across Genre roundtable discussion – Yvvette Edwards, Colin Grant, Peter Kalu, Irenosen Okojie and Leone Ross discuss their work crossing multiple styles of writing
