Breaking Ground: Black British Writers Showcase at Mondavi Center, Davis
Our big showcase event of the 2016 Breaking Ground Tour comes to California. Join us at the Mondavi Center at the University of California at Davis to see 10 brilliant Black British writers read and perform their work.
From Caryl Phillips to Zadie Smith, there are any number of Black British writers who teach and live in the United States. This inaugural tour attempts to deepen stateside familiarity with the richness and diversity of Black British writers whose work has yet to make an impact with U.S. readers. The 10 writers selected on the tour are as varied as population they are representing, with backgrounds from Britain, the Caribbean and Africa, and work that spans fiction, non-fiction, poetry, journalism and more. These readings from some of the brightest names on the U.K. literary scene will open eyes to the wealth of talent coming from across the pond.
